President

Erica Moore

I would like to run for President because I believe that HEA has the potential to help all graduate students during their time at NC State. Currently, I serve as a committee member for HEA’s professional development committee and I have enjoyed the experience. Being able to work with talented colleagues and being involved in committee events has strengthened my administrative skills. I think my ability to communicate with others would be an asset to the organization. Also, I approach duties in an efficient, effective, and task oriented manner in order to reach a goal. My previous leadership experience in the work place and in the community would make me an excellent candidate for the position.

My name is Chelsie Bickel and I am interested in being the Vice President Administration for the Higher Education Association. My assistantship is in University Housing as a Residence Director in Sullivan Hall outside my class time as a first year master’s student. I have skills in communication, event planning, organization and leadership that will be helpful in keeping records, coordinating the mentorship program and communicating with various committees and individuals to ensure that administrative tasks are a priority. In my undergraduate experience I held various leadership positions and have realized how much I miss that part of my education experience. In my current role as an RD, I serve on a few committees and have been able to take on individual tasks, but would love the opportunity to serve as a leader in a different way. I would enjoy working with HEA executive board members to represent the organization as a whole, as well as to try new things. I want to support our members by helping them get more involved in ways they would appreciate getting involved whether that is through attending an alumni event, participating as a mentor or serving on a committee. I am grateful to be nominated for this position.

John Miller IV

I am John Miller IV and I am running for the Vice President of Administration. My belief is that for the members of HEA to benefit from the organization and buy-in to the purpose, they must know what is going on. My intent is to provide innovative ways that all HEA members can engage with the meetings and events. My goals are to: increase communications with HEA current students & alumni, develop stronger Pack Pal and the Professional Mentor programs, and build stronger alumni relations with creative engagement efforts.

Taylor Mercado

Hello everyone! As you all know, my name is Taylor Mercado and I am a current First Year in the program. I am excited to run for VP of Engagement because I think that having a support system is a key element for success in graduate school and for being comfortable here at NC State. Just from my experience in my first year here, I know that some of my most memorable times have been outside of the classroom- at dinners, social networking events, and impromptu get-togethers. I know that some of the conversations had at these outside events and social affairs are the most thought-provoking and help to strengthen the bonds between students in our program. The VP of Engagement position would be a unique opportunity that would allow me to create events that foster connections between the members of the Higher Education program. My hope is to use the position to create lasting connections and memories for Higher Ed students, to foster community between the cohorts, and to bring fun opportunities to just hang out with one another. My experience as serving as the Social Chair for RW has inspired me to pursue this opportunity to create events and  make people feel at home here at NC State. I know that my desire to make people feel welcome, my experience in planning and hosting events, and my love for the program and NC State make me a strong candidate for the position and I hope to serve HEA in this capacity for the upcoming year!

Vice President of Communication

Hi everyone! My name is Kyle Levine and I am a current first year student in the program. I am running for VP of Communication. I have experience in marketing from my undergraduate institution that will be invaluable to the enhancement of communication from Higher Education Association. My plan is to assess ways of communication that improve the amount of visibility of the organization. Dominique Foster

In the past 5 years, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in organizational leadership, accounting and finance, and developing/ maintaining a strategic mission and vision. As an executive board member, I will pull from my leadership experience as Mr. Tuskegee University and president/ advisory board member of two campus dance organizations to effectively collaborate with fellow e-board members and uphold a positive example to which general members of HEA can look to and follow. I will look to my experience as a Southeastern Representative of the INROADS National Intern Advisory Board and my work with Business Strategy Consulting to aid in the development and maintaining of HEA’s vision and mission and ensure that the voices of the general body are represented. Lastly, my undergraduate experience in accounting and my work experience at a Big 4 Accounting Firm have developed my knowledge of financial processes such as budget forecasting and management and my ability to learn new financial systems quickly. It is my hope that these qualities will add value to the HEA executive board and the larger mission of HEA as a whole.

HEA GSA Representative

Kenny Hertling

In the last year I have been able to see several different aspects of our program and what is available to us. With the GSA Liaison position I would be able to communicate across disciplines and help make decisions campus wide. I would be a good fit for this position because I work well with new groups and I am able to communicate effectively.
